Ottawa Hospital’s General Campus province’s worst for C. difficile

Public Health thinks there could be reservoirs of spores in the community

Don Butler, The Ottawa Citizen

Ottawa Hospital’s General Campus reported more C. difficile cases than any other hospital in Ontario over the past 12 months. Citizen analysis shows that the 495-bed General Campus reported 127 new C.difficile infections between June 2012 and July 2013. That’s substantially more than the 97 C. difficile infections reported by the 398-bed Civic Campus and Kingston General Hospital, which had the second most during that time period. It’s also far more than the number reported by large acute teaching hospitals in Toronto.
