On Monday, the Ontario government announced 250 more short-stay beds in long-term care homes across the province, bringing the total to 750. The new beds are to cost $12.5 million and serve about 1,500 people a year. While available to all adults, the expansion is targeted at older people: to shift them safely from hospital to home and to prevent or delay permanent admission to long-term care.
